Face Painting

Face painting is so popular with kids. We went to the fourth of july celebration at observatory playground, and the line for the face painting was so long that the kids would have missed all the other activities. so becky, being the craft-oriented person that she is, said we would buy our own face paint and do it ourselves. So they went ot acmoore and got the face paint. esther, being the artist that she is was elected to do the painting. Andy wanted to be the spiderman from the last movie, and of course nikki always did like pink flowers. Emily had her heart set on a rainbow that covered her entire face, so we thought, why not, it washes off. it does in fact wash off, but it did take a while. i have instructed esther to stay a little further away from the eyes, but now that she has had some experience, we'll always have a resident face painter for birthday parties, etc.

Another Musical Instrument

While we were visiting "colonial" Philadelphia last Saturday, we went to a glass armonica concert at the Benjamin Franklin museum. The glass armonica was invented by Ben Franklin, his earlier models being color coded like this one for the different notes. After the concert, they let the kids try this model. After quite a bit of trying, Esther finally did get some notes out of it.
